L’application Exercices Mécanique EPFL se veut être à l’usage de tout-e étudiant-e débutant son premier cours de Physique à l’EPFL, ou ailleurs. Le smartphone s’étant imposé partout, cette application vient donc accompagner quiconque veut avoir accès à des ressources de la mécanique classique pour apprendre, pour s’entraîner, mais surtout pour pratiquer sa mémoire dans le domaine de la physique. Le processus de mémorisation tend à se perdre avec les nouvelles technologies, mettant à mal les capacités de calcul et de raisonnement de l’étudiant-e, qui construit alors moins de connexions au sein de son réseau neuronal. L’idée est donc d’utiliser le smartphone pour développer à nouveau la mémoire via des quiz itératifs, et renforcer les capacités cognitives de l’utilisateur-rice.
A la version 1.5, quatre sections existent: un quiz imagé à choix multiples, un quiz textuel à choix multiples, un carnet de notes des problèmes avec la possibilité de communiquer, et une liste des propositions du livre Traité de Physique: Mécanique, du Pr. Ansermet, Presses Polytechniques et Universitaires Romandes.
Cette application explore les grandes notions de la mécanique classique avec les lois de Newton, la physique du point matériel, celle du solide indéformable, et la mécanique de Lagrange.
Des notions telles que la quantité de mouvement, le moment cinétique, le moment de force, le moment d’inertie, l’énergie potentielle du ressort, et bien d’autres, sont abordées.
Les théorèmes du centre de masse et du moment cinétique sont mises à explorés.
La physique dans le référentiel relatif (accéléré) est introduite, notamment à travers les accélérations centripète et de Coriolis.
Les outils mathématiques pour la physique sont aussi appliquées, notamment les projections vectorielles, les repères cylindrique et sphérique, le produit vectoriel etc.
